Brandau named to first team; Johnson and Sharp honorable mention
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The preseason honors continue to come in for the Yale men's lacrosse team. USA Lacrosse magazine has announced its All-America teams and three Bulldogs were selected. Senior Matt Brandau was named to the first team, while sophomores Leo Johnson and Brad Sharp earned honorable mention recognition.
Brandau, who ranked second in the nation in points per game (99 points in 17 games) and was a candidate for the Tewaaraton Award, earned multiple All-America honors, including from USA Lacrosse, and was a unanimous first team All-Ivy League selection last spring. He also was named first team All-ECAC.
Johnson and Sharp were significant contributors in their rookie seasons. Johnson started all 17 games and was second to Brandau on the team in assists (29) and points (64), while finishing third in goals with 35.
Sharp, who earned second team All-Ivy recognition last year, contributed 19 goals and 17 assists in 17 games.
The Bulldogs, who were picked No. 8 in USA Lacrosse's preseason top-20 national poll, open the regular season Feb. 19 at Villanova.
